In their final league road games of the season, the Spirit were back in St. Louis to make up the games missed in December due to the icy weather conditions. Springfield would win one and tie one against St. Peters and Kirkwood #2.

On Saturday morning the Spirit took on the Kirkwood Stars #2 team in what would be a great battle. Back in December the Spirit escaped with a 2-1 win, so they were in for a good game against a good team. Kirkwood would carry the play early and force turnovers in the Spirit zone. Midway through the first Kirkwood found the back of the net to make it 1-0. With 3 minutes to play in the first off some miscommunication in the Springfield zone, Kirkwood gathered the puck and scored again to make it 2-0 in their favor. Less than a minute later Zahn Werner took the puck wide into the Kirkwood zone. Werner dragged the defender out and slid the puck to a wide open Gavin Loven who would cut the deficit to 1. In the second period many battles and many good saves from both goalies kept the score 2-1. With 15 seconds to play Loven broke through the defense and went forehand-backhand to tie the game at 2. In the third period the teams traded chances but the goalies came up big. Save of the game goes to the Kirkwood netminder. Loven was vying for his 3rd of the game but the Stars goalie came up with a good glove save. The game ended in a tie 2-2.

In game 2 of the weekend the Spirit would play the St. Peters Spirit, the first place team in the other division. Midway through the first St. Peters would strike to make it 1-0. That would be it for the first as Springfield couldn’t find the back of the net of some good chances. Midway through the second period Zahn Werner split the defense and went to his go to forehand-backhand move to tie the game at 1. Less than two minutes later Wyatt Wirth found himself open at the side to the goal and jammed the puck under the St. Peter’s goalie to make it 2-1 Springfield. Defense tightened up and no more goals were scored in the second period. Late in the third John Brown put a shot on goal, the St. Peter’s goalie kicked it out to a wide open Kurt Buckman who would score to increase the lead to 3-1 Springfield. A late surge from St. Peters was turned away by Cooper Pumphrey and the Springfield defense. Springfield would hang on for a 3-1 win.

With the win and tie on the weekend the Spirit are 11-1-1 in league play and 25-3-2 overall on the year.

50 goal watch- Gavin Loven needs 3 goals to hit the 50 goal mark.

The Spirit are back in action at home 2/11 to round out league play with games against Twin Bridges and NW Arkansas.
