The Spirit took to home ice for one game against the Meramec #1 Sharks this past weekend. Springfield had already beaten the Sharks in the Firebird tournament just a little over a month ago. The Spirit would use home ice advantage and skate to a 4-1 victory.

Midway through the first Gavin Loven found an open Zahn Werner in the high slot. Werner fired a shot that the Shark goalie could not control as it bounced off his glove and into the net for a 1-0 lead. The Sharks would strike back less than 2 minutes later to tie the game at 1. Late in the 2nd Loven found a Brooks Kettering rebound and put the puck in the top corner from a sharp angle to make it 2-1 Spirit. Midway through the third it was Kettering finding a rebound off a Will Peters shot making it 3-1 Spirit. Other assist on the goal went to Cal Bussen.  The defense tightened up and did not let a goal slip by the rest of the way. Cooper Pumphrey picks up the win stopping 14/15 shots. Player of the game belt went to John Brown who continues to sacrifice his body to block shots and get in the way of opposing players.

The Spirit are 1st in their division with a record of 6-1 in league play and are 16-2-2 overall.

Springfield will hit the road for 3 tough games in St. Louis as they will take on Kirkwood #2 twice and the St. Peters Spirit. Kirkwood #2 is in second place right behind the Spirit and will be looking to climb to the top. St. Peters is #1 in their respective division and should pose a tough test for the Spirit.
