The Springfield Spirit Peewee A2 team hit the road this past weekend to play a couple of declaration games in Springdale, Arkansas. The Spirit showed some early signs of a promising season with dominating 5-1 and 6-0 wins.

Leading the charge in game one was 2nd year player Gavin Loven. Gavin continues to be a proven goal scorer as he netted 4 goals in the win. Zahn Werner kicked things off putting Springfield ahead 1-0. Loven would put up the remaining 4 in route to a 5-1 win. John "Iron Man" Brown got 2 assists and Cal Bussen picks up another assist in the win. Cooper Pumphrey continues his strong play stopping 20 of 21 shots to pick up win number 2 of the year.

In game 2 we got to see a bit more of a passing game as the Spirit moved the puck well and set up some nice goals. Zahn Werner scored the first 2 goals of game and added 2 assists including a great pass to Gavin Loven in the slot which put Springfield up 3-0 in the 2nd. Wyatt Wirth put the Spirit up 4-0 late in the 2nd off a pass from Gage Robb. With 2 seconds remaining in the 2nd period Kurt Buckman found a wide open Will Peters out front and made it 5-0. Loven added his sixth goal of the weekend to make it 6-0 off a feed from Werner. Cooper Pumphrey picks up the shutout stopping all 12 NW Arkansas shots.

With the 2 wins the Spirit move to 3-0-1 on the season.

Notes: Gavin Loven has 8 goals in his first 4 games of the season. Zahn Werner proves to be a reliable option on the ice as he is a +10 through 4 games. Cooper Pumphrey sits at a 94% save percentage starting off the season strong.
