Spirit Takes Third Place

Spirit played four games in the Ice Blast Tournament this past weekend.  The opening game on Friday night was against Rockford Illinois Road Runners and resulted in a 5-1 loss.  The Rockford team was the eventual winners of the tournament going undefeated in all four games they played.  Game 2 on Saturday for Spirit against Kirkwood saw the tide turn with a 5-1 win.  Later that day in game 3, it was a hard fought battle against Chesterfield that was exciting up to the last second.  With our goalie pulled and down by two goals we got within one and in the last second of the game their goalie made a big glove save as the buzzer sounded on what would have been the game tying goal.  As such, it was a 3-2 loss that put is in the consolation game on Sunday to play Kirkwood for third place.  In that game, three goals from three different players and some good goaltending allowed us to get a 3-2 win for third place in the tournament.

The team captains awarded Nolan the Hard Hat for his hard work and aggressive forecheck and backcheck in both ends of the ice.  Nolan also had a goal in the final game of the weekend.  Keep up the good work, Nolan!
